Other Rare IEMs

Inherited protein metabolic diseases (IEpM) are classified as disorders of amino acid metabolism, urea cycle metabolism, and organic acid metabolism. These disorders can be successfully managed through a specialised diet, medication and other therapies. Patients with IEpM (other than Phenylketonuria) may be at risk of decomposition due to viral infection and a sick day plan is used. Severe disorders may be very difficult to treat and may benefit from a liver transplant. Your Metabolic Team work closely with you and advise on the most appropriate treatment and keep you updated with any treatment developments.
