Fundraise

Interested in starting a fundraiser?

There are dozens of ideas that can get people involved in raising funds.

10 simple ways to make your fundraiser a hit

Whether you’re a first-time fundraiser or a seasoned pro, the following tips will help you encourage everyone to make your Fundraiser a success.

Spread the Word

Tell your friends, family and colleagues what you’re doing. Start fundraising early – and ask everyone you know. Make the most of your networks: social/sports clubs, business contacts, community connections, friends, family, and more. For media advice, contact our office.

Make it fun

Choose something you and your guests will enjoy. Holding some games at your fundraiser is a great way to get everyone involved; they can be as simple as guessing the number of lollies in a jar, or playing our scratch card game. You could also hold a raffle or auction.

Keep it simple

The most straightforward fundraising projects often gain the most support. Be realistic, and choose a project that suits your lifestyle.

Show people what their support will mean

Let people know how their donations will make a difference. If you have a personal reason for getting involved, let people know – it will encourage them to take part in your Fundraiser and give it their full support.

Do your sums

Set yourself a fundraising target and track your progress. Cost everything out and stick to your budget, so you don’t spend more than you raise!

Get online

Activate a personal fundraising page. Once your page is set up, you’ll be able to email everyone you know to ask for donations. You can also put the word out on Facebook.

Ask for matched gifts

Ask your employer if they’ll match the amount you raise dollar for dollar or make a donation. It’s a great benefit for them to extend to employees – and it’s tax deductible! Contact our office for a letter of introduction. This letter is used to notify them you are raising funds for the MDDA.

Don’t be shy!

Charge an entry fee to your event. People will be expecting (even eager) to support you – a ticket price will help you break the ice when it comes to setting a donation amount. You can also approach local businesses for prizes and/or donations.

Remind people of the tax benefits

Any donation over $2 is tax deductible. And if people make donations online, they’ll receive their tax receipt straight away.

Thank everyone!

Last but definitely not least, tell everyone how grateful you are for their support. And don’t forget to tell them what their money will mean to people now and in the future.
